A professional association of physicians and specialists working in the field of child and developmental neurology in Slovenia.
The Child Neurology Society is a professional section of the Slovenian Medical Association (SZD). It brings together physicians and specialists working in the field of child and developmental neurology in Slovenia.
The Section is a member of the European Paediatric Neurology Society (EPNS) and promotes professional development and international collaboration in the field of paediatric neurology.
On the 15th anniversary of the Psychology Service, Children's Department SB Celje · in collaboration with Clinical Psychologists of the Children's Department SB Celje
Slovenian paediatricians and physicians with an interest in child neurology initially organised themselves as the Commission for Child Neurology of the Section for Paedo-psychiatry, which was later renamed the Section for Paedo-psychiatry and Child Neurology. In 1995, a proposal was submitted to the Professional Committee of the Slovenian Medical Association to establish an independent Child Neurology Society.
The specialty had been present in Slovenia since 1954, founded by prim. dr. Ivica Tivadar and prof. dr. Jože Jeras. Within the Clinical Centre, it operated as the largest unit of the Paediatric Department, with active outpatient services, a paediatric neurophysiological laboratory, and neuropsychological activities. Hospital units also operated at the Paediatric Department of Maribor General Hospital, the Hospital for Disabled Youth Stara gora, and in several other paediatric wards, institutions for children with disabilities, and community health centres.
A nine-member executive board was elected. The following took on roles: president as. Neža Župančič, deputy president as. Jana Frelih, secretary doc. dr. David Neubauer, treasurer Natalija Krajnc, delegate for international cooperation prim. Igor M. Ravnik, and members prim. Brigita Lobnik Krunič, prim. Hilda Veličkov, Bogdan Lorber and Peter Najdenov.
Over the years, membership has grown — there are currently 70 members. The core activities of the Section are regular scientific meetings and the organisation of professional workshops. We have frequently collaborated with other sections and associations of the SZD as well as with international guests.
Through their professional work and activities, they have significantly shaped their speciality and the field of child neurology more broadly.
